Mimicry Row: PM Narendra Modi contacts Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar amidst the growing mimicry controversy, expressing dismay over disrespectful behaviour by MPs in Parliament. Video clips of TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicking Dhankhar circulated widely, prompting the PM’s call.
Vice President Dhankhar acknowledged the call in a social media post, stating PM Modi expressed anguish regarding the demeaning conduct exhibited within the sacred Parliament premises. He shared the PM’s acknowledgment of similar insults faced over two decades but highlighted the unfortunate aspect of such actions occurring in the Parliament and targeting a Constitutional office.
Addressing the PM, Dhankhar assured his unwavering commitment to upholding constitutional values despite such antics, affirming his dedication to the nation’s core principles. He denounced the insults but reaffirmed his unyielding stance.
Earlier, Dhankhar had expressed disdain for the incident during the House session, emphasising the significant difference between the offices of the Chairman, Rajya Sabha, and Speaker. He criticized the act of a senior leader recording mimicry of another party member, terming it as ridiculous, shameful, and unacceptable. He highlighted the incident’s severity, urging sensibility and setting limits on such behavior, especially among senior leaders.
