JAMMU: Samanbal, a cultural organisation, today organised a seminar here at Writer’s Club in Abhinav Theatre to promote Kashmiri language as a mother tongue.
On this occasion, Apni Party General Secretary, Shri Vijay Bakaya presided over the seminar.
The subject was regarding steps being taken and required to be taken to popularize Kashmiri language as a mother tongue.
In his Presidential address, Bakaya said that the child learns the language spoken to him in the home and that becomes his mother tongue.
“Unfortunately, more and more children hear Hindustani being spoken by their parents and siblings while they are growing up and therefore Hindustani is gradually becoming the mother tongue,” he said.
He said, “It is an irony that Kashmiri is becoming the second language for Kashmiri children.”
He commended Samanbal for making efforts to propagate Kashmiri literature and to make videos etc., for familiarizing the children with spoken Kashmiri.
He also said the language can be learnt only in the environment of the home and the parents should be encouraged to talk in Kashmiri.
