Commuters urged to exercise caution amidst slippery conditions and single lane restrictions.

After being closed for a couple of days due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW) has been partially reopened for vehicular movement. However, authorities advised commuters to exercise caution and follow traffic rules due to challenging conditions on certain stretches.

The highway was closed due to landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones at several locations, particularly near Kishtwar Nallah and Sherbibi. Clearing operations were hampered by the inclement weather, but crews worked tirelessly throughout the night to make the road passable again.

While the NHW partially reopens, two other key roads in the region remain closed. The Mughal Road, a scenic alternate route connecting Shopian and Poonch districts, is still impassable due to snow accumulation. Similarly, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road, connecting Srinagar to Kargil, is also blocked by snow.

The reopening of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is expected to ease the movement of goods and people between the two regions. However, commuters are urged to stay updated on the latest road conditions and exercise patience as the situation evolves.
