JAMMU: Apni Party Provincial President Transport Union, Jammu, Tirath Singh today demanded amendment in the central law that was recently introduced and passed in the Parliament of India.

“The bill passed by the Parliament holds drivers accountable for accidents and accordingly, it has proposed harsh imprisonment that is completely unacceptable to the transporters/drivers,” said Tirath Singh, addressing a press conference here at Apni Party Office, Gandhi Nagar in Jammu.

He said that the transporters/drivers are upset with the Govt and demand an amendment in the bill because it is against the drivers and transporters.

“The drivers drive trucks/trallas carefully and they support thousands of families in the transport business. The holding of drivers accountable is unacceptable, and therefore, the Govt should rethink and amend the bill keeping in view the implication of the bill,” he added.

He said that with the passing of the bill, the transporters are in distress.

“The Govt should re-think and accordingly amend the bill. Otherwise, the transporters will be compelled to come on the roads,” he threatened.
He was accompanied by Devinder Singh Gill, Yash Choudhry, Inderpal Singh, Harvinder Singh, and others.
