JAMMU: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, has strongly condemned the appalling conditions at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu, emphasizing the urgent need for reform and action to address the grievances of suffering patients.
Expressing grave concern over the prevailing condition, Tony stated, “SMSG Hospital has become a place of woes and miseries for those who are already enduring hardship. The behavior of para-medics and doctors in SMGS hospital, especially the negligence in attending calls, is reprehensible and has resulted in immense suffering for the patients.”
In a statement issued here today, Tony strongly condemned the hospital administration for not attending calls during crucial times, leading to a chaotic situation, particularly during the night shift. He demanded immediate action against the erring officials responsible for the deteriorating conditions at the hospital.
“The night shift in the hospital has become an absolute anarchy, with many doctors neglecting their duty amid cold conditions. Patients are left without proper care, and the refusal to respond to calls and messages is unacceptable,” Tony asserted.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Tony urged the administration to immediately transfer the officials responsible for the mismanagement at SMGS Hospital. He pointed out the insufficient number of beds, particularly affecting women facing hardships during critical moments of pain. He said that the patients have been forced to seek better facilities in private hospitals.
Expressing concern for the approaching Republic Day function and the potential for law and order issues, Tony emphasized the need for prompt action to prevent any unwanted elements from taking advantage of the situation.
Warning of future demonstrations, Tony stated the administration headed by LG Manoj Sinha must take immediate and stern action. If the government will not take any step against the erring officials before 26th January, the Congress will organize protest and expose the functioning of SMGS Hospital in front of the media, he added.
